Wow! What a week!!!
4th Grade
S.S-finished learning about the geography of Missouri and began learning about the impact of Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery on the state of Missouri. Additionally they learned about important individuals in the Civil Rights Movement.
Reading-learned about inferencing. We had some really wonderful class discussions on the novel we are reading; “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane”. The kids completed a variety of comprehension activities over chapters 1-4. It made me SO happy that the kids begged to be able to read another chapter.
Homework-went home today. Due next Friday. Kids have regular spelling words and some vocabulary words which they need to know the definition of, but NOT how to spell.
5th Grade
S.S-Learned about the Missouri Compromise. Doing a combined reading/s.s unit on “The Captain’s Dog” and Lewis and Clark. In addition to book discussions and comprehension activities, the kids are creating a project for “Thomas Jefferson” in which they have chosen what Corps of Discovery member they are during the journey. The students are providing Thomas Jefferson with information about their particular corp member, the flora and fauna, difficulties encountered and their progression towards the Pacific Ocean.
Homework-went home today. Due next Friday. There are regular spelling words and vocabulary words that the kids need to know the definition for, but NOT how to spell.
5 points extra credit in any subject that I teach (will put towards lowest grade ) for any student who attends any church service or mass IN UNIFORM this Sunday and provides me with a picture or parent note indicating that they were in uniform at church. Students not able to attend church may write 1 paragraph about why Catholic Education is important to them.
Make sure to read all the school newsletters and notes about Catholic Schools Week. On Sunday your child can sing with the adult choir.
