Dear Families, It’s been a great first week back! We finished the book “Mr Popper’s Penguins” today in 4th grade and the students began a book report project on the book. The students also really enjoyed learning about the geography of Missouri and they all did EXCELLENT on the quiz about Missouri’s border states and map coordinates. This week: Quiz on Friday over Missouri geography-start of Missouri river into the state of Missouri ( near Kansas City) where the Missouri River leaves the state of Missouri (near St. Louis). Location of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers, Kansas City, St. Louis, Jefferson City and Springfield. Also the Glaciated Till Plain, Ozark Highlands, Osage Plains, Mississippi Lowlands and Alluvial River Plain. (There WILL BE a word bank for kids) In 5th grade, the students really absorbed the information about the Louisiana Purchase and we had some great class discussions. In writing, the 5th graders began writing their first article (about the Louisiana Purchase) for the newspaper they will create with many articles to come, about Westward Expansion. This week: Quiz on Lewis and Clark and the Corp of Discovery (all info covered in class) on Friday. Spelling packets due Friday. I will be out Monday and Tuesday as I have a prior contract with the Hurley School District to do reading testing 3 times a year. Many Blessings! Spelling/Reading packet due Friday Quiz on Missouri border states and map coordinates, Friday. Study guide going home on Monday. Spelling test on Friday. Dear Families,
Happy New Year! I'm really looking forward to seeing the kids on Monday. This semester is starting off with some social studies units that I'm REALLY looking forward to teaching. Fourth grade will be doing an in-depth unit on the state of Missouri. Everything from the geography, the people, the government, natural resources, etc. Fifth grade will be learning all about Westward Expansion: The Louisiana Purchase, Lewis and Clark, Pioneers, the Oregon Trail, etc. Both units are going to be chock-full of information, interaction and fun. Some important information that teachers have been asked to pass-on to you from the staff meeting, yesterday: *Casino Night is February 1st!!! Buy your tickets on the website. Bring friends and family. PLEASE volunteer for this event. *Only GREEN fleece coats from Lands End with the school emblem may be worn inside. All other hoodies, etc, MAY NOT be worn in the building. Students in K-5 may only wear navy pants and shorts. Girls plaid skirts must be NO LESS than 2 inches above the knee. *Students dressing out-of-uniform on buy-out days are expected to bring money for the cause or else are to be in uniform. Other important information: *All assignments will no longer be worth 100 points. Points per assignment will be determined by number of questions, length, type of assignment, etc. However, the percentage values that assignments are worth in terms of the overall grade (classwork, homework, test) will remain the same, *After talking with Dr. Hall, it has been decided that students can NO LONGER correct tests for 50% credit back. *All weekly assignments and homework are due by Friday unless otherwise noted. Assignments will only be accepted 1 day late and only 50% credit will be given. Blessings, Scarlett Weis I am SO sorry that I did not include the spelling list with the packet, yesterday! I'm still trying to get "on the bandwagon".
